There are a lot of Christmas Carols that I love. The vast majority are faith filled - I am not one of those who celebrates Winter - it just seems so trivial when you think about what we are really celebrating. Besides, we never have a white Christmas in Southern California, and (IMHO) that is as it should be. Christmas isn’t just a holiday it is a Holy Day. Every year it is another chance to welcome Him.

My favorite carol is “O Holy Night.” I usually can’t sing through the whole thing without getting choked up. Here are the lines that really hit me:

Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the soul felt its worth.

Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His Gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His Name all oppression shall cease.

Fall on your knees, O hear the angel voices!
O night divine, O night when Christ was born!

When I hear “fall on your knees” sung so powerfully, I really do want to fall on my knees. And the high note is so sweet it feels like pierces to my core

Just wanted to share.

I am so with you on this! I LOVE this song, and tear up when singing and hearing it. No matter where I am, I really do want to hit my knees as well…although admittedly if I did so on a cold sidewalk while walking my dogs at dark o’clock in the morning while traffic passes by…well, that would be inappropriate. :-)

I pray I’ll be able to hear this song this Christmas in church, but typically they do other things. I think they usually do it at the Midnight Mass, but I’ve never been able to go because I’m with my family.

I’ve never gone to a Midnight Mass and I don’t seen an opportunity anywhere in sight. *sigh*

How did I get on THAT topic?

I also love this carol, and that second verse gets me too! Because it’s so plain to see “the world in sin and sorrow pining” and yet, they don’t see it!They just keep rushing around after the gifts, while ignoring the Giver.”Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee” St. Augustine
You haven’t lived until you hear my favorite version of this carol sung by long deceased Mario Lanza.

I am in complete agreement with you both. Most faith filled Chirstmas carols hit me pretty good, but this one more than most.

I love singing Christmas Carols that tell the truth of this holy season. However, I don’t like to start singing them until around now. It’s just too early when we are beginning to sing them in the first or second week of Advent.

My favorite carol is “O Come All ye Faithful”. I also really like “Hark the Harold Angels Sing”.

Hi Moneybags!
I used to think that way, but I found that the carols really help me prepare for Christmas. So I start them at the begining of advent.

I LOVE O Come All Ye Faithful, especially in Latin as Adeste Fideles

I thought I was the only one that loved this song so much. I’m glad that’s not the case. A few members in my orchestra (cello, piano, violin, flute, viola) did this song and it was SOOOOO beautiful. It has become my favorite ever since. Merry Christmas and God Bless!
