It's translated from Portuguese and is in a kind of stream of consciousness format, which I thought would be bad but which I came to appreciate. It's the story of an epidemic sickness in which people spontaneously go blind. It follows a blind man and his wife who pretends to be blind in order to stay with him when he is sent off to quarantine.
