I did check out your blog. Nothing I haven't seen before. I used to be a rationalizing, cafeteria style, "liberal" Catholic too. I used to do all kinds of intellectual exercises to justify my favorite sins (including voting for pro-abortion politicians). I gave up that fruitless struggle. BTW, I am not conservative - I am Catholic - and definitely not "liberal" Catholic. If you need an adjective, it is Roman Catholic. I accept the teachings of the Church - all of them.

I'll send some prayers your way. Undoubtedly, you'll reply that you'll pray for me too - understood and appreciated. If you'd rather not pray for me, that's ok too.

Enjoy your new blog and thanks for visiting. I put up quite a few pictures, so I hope you'll visit again.

Hi alice. Thanks for the pictures. Sorry you disagree, but about what part of my philosophy? Protecting the unborn? Staying true to the teachings of the Church?

He "got it" because of your instruction....because it is your job to impart the faith, that he may be able to stand against the desperate watering-down you so witnesed which seeks to remove the sacred from everything.

Congratulations! :-)

CONGRATULATIONS!!! I'm glad that he Gets It! What a mess, with butterflies and all the rest.

I will say that I like having First Communion at Sunday Mass (though the families should be together) because the whole parish gets to celebrate with the children. I think it encourages the concept that Sunday Mass is important for the whole community, rather than that First Communion is some Rite of Passage that's independent from the life of the Church.

Butterflies at Mass, oh my! Gathering around the Altar, oh my!

Rob, I can understand your concern, but as you know, it's all about the Sacrament, and not only did your son receive Our Lord in the Eucharist, he really 'got' what it was all about.

I prepare 7 year olds for their First Holy Communion and we just can't prepare them adequately in the short time we have (about 12 weeks) for the Sacrament.

Their learning really needs to be assisted in the home, and that's why parent's like you are so great. Parents who can catechise their children but not just with words, but by expressing in their own lives the reverence we accord to Christ in the Eucharist, the devotion to the Eucharist. These are things that 'sink in' with children, not words alone.

Teaching about Jesus is no good on it's own unless it comes from your heart to theirs.

That's what makes your son's First Communion so beautiful. He really 'got it'.

(of course, we can teach our children about liturgical abuse too ;-)

God Bless your son!
