My third installment of What Stick comes from my high school years (in fact I have several from then). The topic was about how you get into heaven.
The question was posed to us, a group of 150 high school boys - how do we get into heaven. Was it in who we were? Or was it in what we could do? How could any of us be merit heaven because of who we were or what we could do , what was that to the One who has given us everything. Is it because of what we had done? Certainly not, for each of us is a sinner. On our own we cannot pay the debt that we incur in our sin. The wages of sin are death - life is not a balance scale where we see if we are more good or bad.
When you die and get to heaven, and the Father asks you why you should be let in, the only answer that will work is that you know the Son. And the Father will turn to his Son and ask if this is true. And Christ will either confirm or deny what you said. And whether he confirms or denies that you know him is by how you lived. Did you live knowing Jesus, loving Jesus. Where you open to his Spirit in your life? Did you allow him to transform you? Did you know and love his mother? Who would welcome someone that would treat his mother with scorn?
You get into heaven by knowing and loving Jesus.
You know and love Jesus in how you live.
