Our pastor, an Irish fellow who has seen a lot happen over his many years as a priest, was concluding our daily mass today. After the final blessing he tells those the daily mass goers that the school will be having their mass shortly and would those staying after mass for the rosary be so kind as to move to the crying room. He had turned off the sound system off in the crying room and they would not be disturbed while the children entered and began preparing for mass.
Some of those staying asked father to turn the air conditioner off in that room because it is apparently cold. Father told them that it was on a timer and that they could turn or not turn on. The parishoners told him that it didn’t work and the air was always on. Father was taken aback. I suspect that having to deal with the expenses of the large parish is what made him wince (who is leaving the air conditioner on - that is what I would think just about my home).
Father had a two fold solution:
- For the long run he would speak to the custodian to get that fixed - it is supposed to be on a timer.
- In the meantime, he suggested that those praying should pray just a little harder to stay warm.
You’ve got to love our priests!
