Another peg falls into place as the world lurches toward a version of 1984. The newspeak word for loss of civil liberties is “terrorism prevention.” Did you notice that – civil liberties are paired with terrorism – so then advocating for civil liberties would be advocating for terrorism? You gotta love the power of newspeak.

U.S. agents can seize travelers’ laptops: report Reuters

Under recently disclosed Department of Homeland Security policies, such seizures may be carried out without suspicion of wrongdoing, the newspaper said, quoting policies issued on July 16 by two DHS agencies.

Agents are empowered to share the contents of seized computers with other agencies and private entities for data decryption and other reasons, the newspaper said.

DHS officials said the policies applied to anyone entering the country, including U.S. citizens, and were needed to prevent terrorism.

These newspeak guys are good – in a nefarious kind of way. Now that murdering a child is “choice” and murdering the helpless is “dignity” we will be moving on to new words. Currently the focus changing the meaning of religion and faith into hate and bias. The city of San Francisco Board of Supervisors has officially labeled the teachings of Catholicism as:

hateful and discriminatory rhetoric (that) is both insulting and callous, and shows a level of insensitivity and ignorance which has seldom been encountered by this Board of Supervisors.

And of course there is the effort to abolish marriage, or at least change the definition to mean any coupling.

Here is a quote from Arnold Schwarzenhegger in a supplemental court briefs to the California supreme court:

The Administration submits that use of the words “marry” and “marriage” is not required by the California Constitution. Thus, the name of the legal relationship now known as “marriage” could be changed.

It may have taken longer than Orwell thought, and it may take a while longer before it is fully installed, but “progress” continues.
