While I am not as happy with the outcome of the election as some are, I am very glad that it is over. This idea of never ending campaigning is nuts. I think that the length of the campaigns contribute to the animosity generated. The official campaigning started two years ago, and the unofficial before that. That is two years of heated campaigning focusing on all that divides us. I somehow think that isn’t the most healthy way for a country to function. To boot, it can’t be good for policy when so much of the time is spent campaigning and positioning instead of simply governing.
I can say with certainty that I am happy that this outcome did not end on hanging chads or partisan lawyers. It is better when the answer is clear – even if it is not the answer we would prefer.
