Obama campaigned big on bringing the troops home right away. Now we hear this. Officials: Obama to Leave Up to 50K Troops in Iraq Through 2011:
President Obama will announce plans today to withdraw the bulk of the current 142,000 U.S. troops in Iraq by Aug. 31 of 2010, leaving 35,000 to 50,000 in place until the end of 2011, senior administration officials said yesterday.
Officials said that both the 19-month deadline for withdrawing “combat” forces, and the size of the residual force to remain for an additional 16 months, were recommended by Obama’s senior civilian and military advisers as the best way to manage the exit he has pledged without jeopardizing Iraq’s still-fragile security.
It seems to me that O is right where GW was on Iraq. We also know that O also is planning a surge in Afghanistan, again a Bush idea that he criticized. So where is the sea-change in policy? Well, so far we are essentially nationalizing banks, diverting funds from the poor to funding abortions in foreign countries, and creating massive deficits to burden our progeny for generations – that is just for starters. O is definitely not living up to the hype – I do hope he gets his act together, the country needs a lot better than the “change” we have seen so far.
