Today is the day we celebrate the annunciation of our Lord. Typically this is on March 25th (9 months before Christmas), but because the 25th was in Easter Week, it was moved to today.
This is the day that Mary said yes. This is the day that the Lord was made incarnate. His [...]

IRAQ The archbishop of Mosul is dead - Asia News
Mosul (AsiaNews) - The Chaldean archbishop of Mosul is dead. Archbishop Faraj Rahho was kidnapped last February 29 after the Stations of the Cross. His kidnappers gave word of his death, indicating to the mediators where they could recover the body of the 67-year-old prelate.
Eternal [...]

It has been 10 days, the Archbishop is still missing, and we are still not hearing about this in the United States other than in the Catholic press.  Pray for this Archbishop of the Church and for our Christian brothers and sisters in Iraq.  Pray! Pray! Pray!

I recently read that some people find it difficult to confess their sins to a priest.
HELLO - it SHOULD be hard!
If it isn’t hard, then you might want to look at how well you examine your conscience. Are you really examining where the sin is.
We are all on a journey - some of [...]

Someone recently described my belief in the existence of Satan (and presumably my belief in Christ and the sacred nature of his bride the Church and what she teaches) as a fairytale, and that my life must therefore be sad. This shows the great divide between believers and unbelievers.
I am certain that people who don’t [...]

Please pray for the Christians in Iraq. They are so often not mentioned in mainstream media coverage, but the violence toward them continues. This ancient Church is in danger. They need our prayers and whatever support we can provide. Please pray for Archbishop Rahho and the entire Chaldean Church.

You may want to read this excellent article with Archbishop Burke on Catholic Identity. Reading these words helps the faithful Catholic to persevere and may help others to see Truth. Here is an excerpt.
Oftentimes, members of the faithful have commented to me that it’s really a challenge these days to be a Catholic. [...]

I sometimes encounter people that are Catholic in Name Only. I am not talking about those people who claim to be “cultural Catholics” (another term for fallen away Catholics). No, I am talking about those who reject the dogma of the Church. Those who have an agenda to “change” the Church into [...]

A couple years ago, I was sitting in Church and was shocked out of being on autopilot while listening to the sermon. Since that time this sermon has impacted me repeatedly on my path to Christ - helping me to stay focused and let distractions go.
That Sunday we had readings from the old and new [...]

My third installment of What Stick comes from my high school years (in fact I have several from then). The topic was about how you get into heaven.
The question was posed to us, a group of 150 high school boys - how do we get into heaven. Was it in who we were? [...]

What Sticks is a series of posts that recall sermons from priests over my life that have stuck with me. I probably don’t remember everything from these sermons nor do I get it quite the same, but these messages have stayed with me for some time. This next sermon comes from my high [...]

This is the first of the my “What Sticks” posts - posts about sermons that I have heard that have stuck with me across time.  For all of these, I am certain that I am not doing them justice relative to their original deliver.  I am sure I am missing an illustration or nuance.  [...]

Unlike the professors and students who irrationally protested the Pope speaking at their University, Pope Benedict actually understands the role of faith.
The speech the Pope could not deliver: “I don’t come to impose the faith” (emphasis mine)
The Holy Father’s visit to Rome’s oldest university, which was founded in 1303 by Pope Boniface VIII, was suspended [...]

As time goes by, we touch the lives of others and they touch our lives. That touch is often for only a moment, but the impact of those relationships linger. Occasionally, we are given the chance to re-connect with these influences on our lives. These connections are sometimes filled with joy, but there is also [...]

I was able to attend a mass yesterday where there were 13 bishops, and more than 20 monks (not to mention those of us in the congregation).  These bishops were on retreat led by Father Cantalmessa, preacher to the papal household.  At one point in mass, I was taken back by the power of all [...]

I think that at least one of the insights that came to me this Advent is worth sharing. I am sure that I am not the first person to make this connection, but since I had not made it until this year, I figure others haven’t as well - the connection between Christs’ [...]

Mount Carmel Catholic Bloggers: Chaos in the Church - Part 3: The Hermeneutic of Rupture in the Interpretation of Vatican II
Head on over and read it. Quite insightful (as the Mount Carmel Bloggers frequently are).

Our Blessed Lord’s private revelation to Mutter Vogel (Picture of St. Alphonsus, priest) “One should never attack a priest, even when he’s in error. Rather, one should pray and do penance that I’ll grant him My grace again. He [...]

Over the last few days, a proposal to reform the Federal Code of Electoral Institutions and Procedures was discussed in the Senate, and has been scheduled for a vote in the next two weeks. The proposed legislation maintains all the current restrictions on civil and political rights for [...]
