My wife and I are starting a new business – Kyrie Brand. It is based on the idea that we are surrounded by, identify with, and even wear a variety of brands. The idea of Kyrie Brand is that we should be marked or “branded” for the Lord (Kyrie means Lord in Greek). We have [...]

It is sometimes hard to watch our kids growing up. My son is in 5th grade. I hated 5th grade. I wonder if he will hate 5th grade. I hope not, but think he might. I somehow was drafted to coach the schools 5th and 6th grade flag football team. I was volunteered to help [...]

Grace at UCR It has been a while since I posted a picture, and this one was far too cute to pass up.

I’d like the announce the birth of our latest family member. Clare Michelle was born at early morning 7/13. At 7 lb 5 oz (3330 grams) she was the biggest of our four children (though by no means big). Mother and daughter are doing well.

What a beautiful celebration of such a short life. UPDATE: Eliot was born July 25, 2006 to Matt & Ginny who shared this wonderful experience with us.  To know more about Eliot visit: ninetynineballoons.com.

California Catholic Daily – “Overt indoctrination” In the same week that the No on 8 campaign launched an ad that labeled as “lies” claims that same-sex marriage would be taught in schools to young children, a first grade class took a school-sponsored trip to a gay wedding. Eighteen first graders traveled to San Francisco City [...]

Today is the first day in the 40 Days For Life campaign. What are you doing? Don’t let this pass you by. Do something. Pray and protest at an abortion clinic. Pray every day wherever for the end of abortion. Fast – give something up these 40 days. Do not just stand by and watch [...]

Click here for a larger image I was speaking with a friend last night about the reasons why we do things.  He made the point that we are called to do all things in the Lord.  He pointed out that in doing so it sometimes seems as if we are motivated simply to store up [...]

This is a post that I also published to Catholic Dads. I thought fellow dads might be interested in a list of items on how to be a great dad from The Art of Manliness. I have reproduced just the list part, without the additional explanation. You can go to the article for the details. [...]

I recently saw a comment about how dads in blogdom frequently don’t focus there blogs as much on family life as mom blogs. I would say, on average, this is true – though there are some exceptions. The implication is that the difference is negative, at least in terms of the commenter’s reading preferences. In [...]

In case you have not heard, the Supreme Politburo Court for the Peoples Republic of California has ruled that the people in the state do not have the right to create a law that defines marriage as between a man and a woman. What’s more it was the ruling of only 4 people that essentially [...]

With all the talk of bucket lists and what you want to do before you die, I had to share this conversation. We had our parish priest over for dinner. My oldest daughter (11) was explaining about a class project where she was supposed to describe the time line of her life. My boy (8) [...]

We had been expecting a new baby in July. I just found out that he or she died. I place my hope in God for the soul of this unborn child. And that of my sister’s unborn child who we also found out died just over a week ago. Please keep them,  my wife, my [...]

My boy came to me today with a knot in his robe that he just couldn’t undo. You could tell that in his frustration he had just pulled it tighter – which made it all the harder. He finally came and asked for help. Getting that knot out was difficult and frustrating – trying to [...]

Click on picture for larger image Parents have a special gift. In many ways we get a glimpse of what God’s relationship with us is like through our relationship with our children. I have seen how their growth and development cause me delight and I believe that this is a shadow of the delight God [...]

In case you didn’t realize, Saturday Sept 29 is Michaelmas (the feast of St. Michael). St. Michael is our family’s patron saint and we are all named Michael or Michelle (first, middle or confirmation name), so Saturday is a big day for us.Michaelmas has been an important holiday in the Church, especially in Ireland, Scotland [...]

We had just started our drive home when it happened. It was a beautiful day and had just settled in for the 4 hour drive. We had not started our rosary yet. Just after our first potty break (about 15 minutes into the trip), we witnessed an accident happen right in front of us – [...]

We just returned from a weekend at Pismo Beach with my folks, my brother and two sisters, and the beginnings of the next generation (my three kids and my sister’s one). It was absolutely beautiful. We had a room that overlooked the ocean. After morning prayers on Saturday, I stepped out onto th balcony, and [...]
